The Scottish Qualifications Authority ( SQA )

Scotland's educational system is different from that of the rest of the UK and although candidates in Scotland can take the GCSEs and A levels of non-Scottish UK boards , the vast majority of candidates in Scotland sit Scottish equivalents. The SQA is the sole board which oversees the setting and marking of these exams. The Scottish "higher" is the approximate equivalent of an A level, for GCSEs the equvalent is the standard grade.
