The AEB offers A level exams and no GCSE. It functions in close partnership with the Southern Examining Group ( SEG ) which in turn offers GCSE exams and no A levels. Both the AEB and SEG are with the Northern Examination and Assessment Board ( NEAB ) part of the unitary grouping ( AQA ) the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance.

For the summer examination session of 1998, the AQA had 55% of the total individual exam entries by subject for UK candidates who sat A level and GCSE exams. At A level 32% of its candidates obtained grades of B and higher, at GCSE level the figure was 29%.
